Football season has just begun but Arizona has Super Bowl fever. Arizona will host the Super Bowl February 1st 2015 and that means a lot of people will be looking for a place to stay. Some Arizona residents are renting out their home or a few rooms to bring in some extra money.
Through websites such as craigslist or Super Bowl Rentalz a growing number of homeowners are trying to cash in on the big game.
If you want to live in high style for Super Bowl 2015, Roland David of Surprise has a house for you.
It’s his house, but he’s more than willing to move out and live in a hotel if you decide to rent it for up to $16,000 a week.
His five-bedroom, 2,500 square-foot fully furnished home at Bell Road and 172nd Ave. in Surprise has a salt-water pool, two master bedrooms and a 50-inch smart TV.
Add to that its location — just 15 minutes from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale — and David says his home is one of the best deals he’s seen advertised.
“My home is twice as big and (nearby),” he said, speaking of other rentals.
Asked when he decided to rent out his place, David said, “when I found out the Super Bowl was coming to town.”
He’s not alone. Vicky Ten Hoven of the Maricopa Real Estate Co. is renting a studio or one-bedroom apartment at the Legacy Golf Club in South Phoenix for $5,500 for seven days or $6,500 for five days, respectively.
She represents a homeowner who hopes to get big bucks from the big game.
“It’s a beautiful property, they have everything there,” Ten Hoven said of the club.
Here’s just a sample of listings on super-bowl-rentalz.com, where homeowners can list their homes for $149:
9841 W. Echo Ln,. Peoria: $2000 Per Night, 2560 square feet, listed 3 weeks ago
10117 W. Superior Ave., Tolleson: $25,000 Per Month, 2450 sqare feet, listed three months ago.
David listed the following prices on phoenix.craigslist.org:
2015 Fiesta Bowl, 1 week $13,995.
2015 Pro Bowl, 1 week for $14,995.
2015 Super Bowl, 1 week for $15,995
2015 Spring Training, 3 months for $5,500 a month.
Another home owner is seeking $25,000 for one month for a five-bedroom, 2,450s square foot home with a smart TV and 7,500-square-foot lot in Tolleson, according to super-bowl-rentalz.com.
But the dollar signs many home owners are seeing may not materialize, according to experts interviewed about Super Bowl 2008, which was also in Glendale.
Only a small percentage of Super Bowl fans rent houses, and the Greater Phoenix area is an established tourist destination with tens of thousands of hotel rooms.
Both David and Ten Hoven said they have not gotten any serious bites yet.
“I think it’s because we’re not in football season yet,” Ten Hoven said. “No one knows which teams are going to go.”
What do you think? Is this a good way to make some money?
